EEF conference in Rome “Ecology at the Interface: science-based solutions for human well-being”

“Ecology at the Interface” is a EEF and SItE’s joint conference to be held in Rome. Cristina Máguas will be convener at the Symposia  “Stable isotopes in ecology: crossing boundaries across disciplines and scales”.

FCUL green-roof

ESFE has been involved in the establishment and monitoring of the FCUL green-roof. It was established in February 2013. It is mostly composed of plants of the genus Sedum and also some bryophytes. We are currently monitoring plant survival and growth, as well as natural regeneration.

Iberian Training School on Restoration in Mediterranean Drylands - COST Action ES1104

The wildlife documentary directed by Daniel Pinheiro with CBA participation within a dissemination project can be seen onboard TAP airplanes in the long-distance flights to Africa and the Americas.

Just before summer holidays

Not long before going to the summer holidays ESFE has moved to a new room on the 6th floor (2.6.13), re-arranged the general room (2.5.14) and organized a picnic to wish for good vacations!

Students training for the Biology Olympiads

ESFE member Otília Correia has been involved in the students training for the 25th International Biology Olympiad held in Bali last July and for the coming 8th Ibero-american Biology Olympiads in Mexico.

Capermed meeting

Workshop Desertification & Restoration

Biominar: dissemination activities about the biodiversity of Neves-Corvo Region

This project was done with the scientific coordination of Cristina Branquinho and the participation of Alice Nunes, Margarida Santos-Reis, Otília Correia, Paula Matos, Pedro Pinho, Silvana Munzi, Susana Tápia and Zulmira Gamito.

It was composed of four activities: a website and a field-guide, a movie and a workshop. More information here.

Floresta Comum: ESFE collaborates in the recovery of an urban stream in Almada

ESFE (CBA-FCUL) provided the scientific support for the successful application of Câmara Municipal de Almada to the program Floresta Comum, in order to recover a river stream. This initiative is promoted by ICNF; Ministério da Agricultura, Mar, Ambiente e Ordenamento do Territótrio; Quercus and the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, providing native species, exclusively from Portuguese seeds, for reforestation programs involving the local community.
